Electrical Wire for Connections

When connecting the Zareba Automatic Gate Opener, use 16-gauge, dual
conductor, multi-stranded direct burial wire
(GBW1) for the connection (not included in kit). This is available through
Zareba Systems
or in the electrical department of most home improvement or hardware stores.
In order to effectively convey the low voltage current to the gate opener, this
burial wire should never be more than 300-metre long, or voltage loss
will occur and gate opener performance may be erratic.

Also note that to assure adequate current, the 16-gauge, dual conductor,
multi-stranded direct burial wire (GBW1) should be one continuous length
and not spliced together. A splice may lead to corrosion and an
inadequate power supply.
We recommend PVC conduit be used to protect the 16-gauge wire when
trenched from the gate opener control box to the mains power source. Be
sure to follow all local electrical codes.
