This round rod clamp maintains a secure connection between ground wire and ground rod, and is for use with 5/8 in - 1/2 in, 8 ft copper-clad ground rods.
ElectroBraid® Ground Rod Clamp
ElectroBraid® fencing components are made for performance and durability. That’s the peace of mind that comes from choosing the ElectroBraid fencing system. ElectroBraid® is SAFE, SECURE and SIMPLE. The ElectroBraid® brass ground rod clamp is designed for use as part of the copper-based ElectroBraid® system, and works well with other copper ground rod systems.
- Securely connects ground wire with the ground rod
- Use with copper-clad ground rods from 5/8 in to 1/2 inch in diameter
- Durable brass construction prevents galvanic corrosion between metals
- Proper grounding keeps horses safe
- 1 clamp per package
This very durable brass ground rod clamp is for use with 5/8 inch to 1/2 inch, six- or eight-foot copper-clad ground rods used for your electric fence grounding system. Since brass and copper are like metals, you will not risk galvanic corrosion of your ground rod system.
The importance of proper grounding
Did you know any electric fence is only as good as its grounding system? In fact, most of the time, if a fence is not working; the problem can be traced to improper grounding. Grounding is an essential part of your electric fence system, and the effectiveness of your electric fence and the safety of your animals depends on it. If the ground terminal of the charger is not securely grounded, the path of electric current cannot be completed and the animal will not feel the shock.
How grounding works
It is important to understand how and why you need an effective ground system. For an electric fence to provide an effective shock, an electric circuit must be completed. That means the electrons passing along the fence must pass through the animal and then return back to the charger. The electrons can return to the charger either by travelling through the ground to the ground rods or through the negative (grounded) strand on your fence, which is connected to the negative terminal on the charger.
Ground rod placement
The first step of installing ground rods is selecting the right location. Ground rods should be placed at least 25 feet from your fence charger and near the fence line, but at least 50 feet away from any underground piping, cable or other grounding system. A ground rod closer than 50 feet to a waterline (even if the waterline is plastic) may cause signal interference in your home computer, phone, radio or TV. Ground rods closer than 25 feet from the energizer may damage the energizer during electrical storms.
Remember to attach clamps BEFORE driving ground rods, as the end of a ground rod may mushroom from pounding, making it impossible to slide a clamp over the end.
After ground rods are installed
When you have installed your ground rods, connect them with heavily insulated copper lead-out wire rated for at least 15,000 volts. ElectroBraid® High Voltage Insulated Copper Lead Out Wire are designed for this purpose. Strip a ¾” length of the insulating jacket and secure with cable ties for a trouble-free, permanent installation. Secure connecting wires to the ground rods with brass ground rod clamps and cable ties. After all ground rods are connected, connect one ground rod to the negative terminal on your charger.
CAUTION: Do not confuse or combine ground rods for your house with ground rods required for an electric fence charger. The ground rods used with a fence energizer act as receivers for electron flow. Grounding is one of the most critical elements in any electric fence system. Over 95% of all electric fence problems result from poor grounding.
ElectroBraid® Braid will not rust, rot, lose strength due to sunlight or weathering, break when installed as a permanent fence or prove defective in workmanship or material. Any reel of ElectroBraid® Braid that is defective will be replaced at no charge to the purchaser. This warranty is in effect for 25 years from the date of purchase.
