| Other Factors Size of Area What is the size of the area you wish to fence? Will this be measured in acres or miles? The distance will determine the size and type of electric fence charger you will need. The location of a power source or the lack of a power source will also be important in choosing a charger. New Fence or Add to Old Will you be building a new fence or adding to an existing fence? This will determine what you will need to build your electric fence. The Zareba® specialty insulators allow you to add hot wires to an existing chain link, woven wire, U-Posts, T-Posts, and many other fences. This gives you the flexibility of putting an electrified wire at the outside top of the fence (to keep animals from climbing over) or at the outside bottom (to keep animals from digging under). This is a simple, low cost way to "critter-proof" an existing fence. (Note: you can not directly electrify a chain link or woven wire fence, as they will ground out). Soil Quality For dry, sandy, rocky or frozen soil where the animal is not feeling a very intense shock, there is also an alternate method of grounding called a "ground wire return system". The animal only feels a shock if the electric fencing circuit is completed. When the animal touches the electrified fence line, current goes through the animal's hooves, through the earth, back to the ground rods and finally back into the charger to complete the circuit. The better the ground system, the more shock the animal will feel. Zareba® is the largest manufacturer of electric fence systems offering durable, reliable electric fence products for all of your animal fencing needs. |
