Controlling Predators
Besides being used to contain animals, electric fence systems can also be used to keep out predators. Predators, such as wolves, coyotes, and bears would love to make dinner of your livestock, horses or exotics, but you can prevent this from happening by using a reliable, effective electric fence system. | | | Electric Fencing to Keep Out Wolves and Coyotes Wolves and coyotes are carnivorous and survive by preying on weaker and slower species, including domesticated herd animals. They frequently hunt in packs and disregard traditional fencing. A properly installed electrified high tensile fence will provide excellent protection from these predators. We recommend fence posts that are at least 40” above ground and a minimum of 6 strands of wire, equally spaced 6 to 8 inches apart. Wolves and coyotes also dig to reach their prey, which requires the bottom electric wire to be placed not more than 6 inches from the ground.
Since wolves and coyotes have very thick, insulating fur, you’ll need a low impedance fence charger that can maintain 4,000 to 5,000 volts on the fence line. Tip: You may want to use bait to condition predators to avoid the fence. Zareba® electric fence systems provide effective, reliable and affordable electric fencing to keep predators out. | |
