Review RateNot sure if I would buy again!!!
This was a good charger, bought in April 2018 and now just over the 1 year warranty I have a loose cow down by the road. It has been outside for a year on a fence and under cover. In the 14 months of ownership it has maybe seen 3 months of usage. I use it to rotate the cows to my lower pasture. I just bought another one that is 50 mile well see how it last and how Zaeba deals with customer care and warranty from this 25 mile.Response From Zareba®Lauren : Consumer Relations Representative

Review RateFarm Experience / Animal Trainer
FARMER / ENGINEER / CERT. DOG TRAINER: I would like to give you the perspective you're looking for when shopping for this energizer. *NOTE*Joules measure the amount of energy for a system, felt as the 'zap, crank, hit, zing, ouch, or shock' a fence gives off. Energizers within a brand usually show a measurement, but be careful comparing brands as they use different methods for their measurements. *Note* No injury, flesh-burn, fire, or damage of any kind has ever occurred at my farm due to an energized fence line. Don't fear these wires as if they were "electrical wiring" carrying LOAD, like then ones in your home. These e-fencing lines have LOW AMPS and are much safer. I have owned 2 Zareba energizers and thoroughly used and tested each - on purpose and often by accidentally grazing my hip against the live wires- haha. I've also witnessed many family members, a toddler, 86 year old grandmother, dogs, cat, racoons, geese, chickens, experience the zap of these systems! The first was the "2-mile AC Energizer" uses for small pets and chickens. It produces a 0.07 Joule 'zap' of energy. This is distinguishable from, yet comparable to, a static zap from a doorknob in winter at ~0.00004 Joules. In regular use, the Energizer has lasted 2+ years, and running, secured in water-resistant (but not airtight) container outdoors. This is an effective Energizer for flighty animals and dogs that spook easily. DO NOT USE WITH STUBBORN DOGS - they will eventually run through as mine learned to "take the hit" and overcome the psychological barrier. The second energizer is the "25-mile AC" unit. It produces a 'zap' of 1.0 Joules (14 times greater than the 2-mile unit) and is the 'real deal' for DOG and small livestock containment as a phycological barrier. I personally fear this line, though it's "all in my head" and, due to it's more intense zap, much tougher to overcome. To clarify: It's not dangerous, just "scary". I've extended my fence line from animal containment to include human-deterrent with a strand atop our property perimeter fence and signage warning guests - whether invited or not. Buy a bigger system than you need. If you need the $35 2-mile energizer, buy the $60 25-mile instead. That's 800%+ value for a few bucks. It's expandable for distance that way, more zap, and overall better. DO NOT consider energy costs as they are negligible at $3-10/year total cost with most systems. DO consider AC/DC/Solar needs, though AC is most reliable for me and does not require much maintenance and there's no battery replacement.
Review Ratehighly recommend
excellent product, this is the 4 charger I've bought from zareba in 12 years.
Review RateGood product
Working great so far with horses. Will see how it does over the winter with an escape artist pony!
Review RateAmazon ReviewProduct works well but was disappointed that a manual / instructions were not included.
Review RateAmazon ReviewThis is the third Zareba product I've purchased since 1991. This unit is containing a 1200 lb steer and 4 goats. Simple to install, highly effective. Won't hurt you, it'll just surprise you and make you back up. The animals usually only touch it once or maybe twice. Get the low impedance if you have issues with weeds. Great product website to help you choose the right charger.
Review RateAmazon ReviewWow, I measured 9,000 volts off my fence powered by this guy. That should stop a velociraptor, let alone my neighbor's loose cows. Only fault is I wish the status light was a little brighter.
Review RateAmazon Reviewperfect jolts every 1 second interval on our fence, could not be happier for peace of mind on the hard work we do in our garden to enjoy the bountiful harvest that Zareba is always protecting, thanks Zareba !!!!!!!!! :)
Review RateAmazon Review, Worked as Intended, Easy SetupI bought this charger from my local TSC, but the price was comparable to what Amazon is offering it for. I needed to run a hot wire at the top of my chain link fence to stop one of my dogs from jumping over. So far it's working! It has shocked her, so I know she knows what the line does - but it didn't hurt her too bad or leave any visible marks. I think it did the job, as she doesn't veer too close to the fence line now (it's been a few days since she shocked herself). I will update if anything changes, but for now I'd definitely say I'm happy with this charger, including how easy it is to set up, and I'd recommend it.
- All About
All About Fence Chargers
Chargers are the heart of the fence system, providing the source for the electric current that flows through the fence wire.
The size of charger needed is dependent upon your fencing needs. These needs are determined by three main factors: the length of the fence (number of wires), the power source (AC, DC or Solar), and the type of animal being contained or excluded.
See our comparison charts of our fence chargers to help you determine which is best for your needs.
Types of Chargers
There are three main types of chargers: AC-Powered, Battery-Operated and Solar-Powered. The source of power for the charger to function determines the type of charger you will be using. Each type of charger has specific situations in which it is most desirable to use.
Selecting the right fence charger with adequate power for your enclosure is critical to keeping your animals safe.
Choosing the Right Fence Charger
The right fence charger is the heart of your electric fence system. Finding the best-matched charger for your fence is imperative to successfully contain/exclude animals. The experts at Zareba® Systems explain a simple process to ensure you buy the right fence charger to meet your needs.
Installation and Location
Every Zareba® Systems fence charger comes with a detailed installation manual. In addition, individual components include “how-to” instructions to assist in your fence system assembly.
Lightning and Power Surge Protection
Lightning is often the cause of fence charger failure. When lightning strikes the fence, the sudden power surge can travel down the fence wire and damage the fence charger.
A variety of properly installed products can prevent or limit lightning damage.
FAQs about Chargers
Q: What factors should I consider when purchasing a fence charger?
A: The power source (AC, Battery or Solar Powered), energy output (in joules), the type of animal being controlled, the length of the fence (more wires need more power) and the amount of vegetation growing near the fence should be considered when you are selecting your fence charger.
Q: What does Low Impedance mean? I see it on chargers in stores and on websites.
A: Low impedance chargers increase the joules (energy) on a fence line if weeds or other vegetation touch the fence. Low impedance chargers are ideal for long, multi-strand poly wire, tape, rope or high tensile fence systems. Low impedance chargers are recommended for most applications and can be operated by AC, DC or Solar Power.
The other type of charger, known as a solid state charger, is usually used to control short-haired livestock, small animals, and pets where only moderate weed conditions exist. These chargers deliver a medium-amperage shock and can be operated by AC or DC.
Q: Why does my fence charger make clicking noises?
A: Most fence chargers have a pulsed output. Every time it “clicks,” it is releasing energy to the fence that has been stepped up or increased through a capacitor and a transformer. This release of energy makes noise. Not all chargers make the clicking noise. The noise is designed for the owner of the charger and serves no functional purpose.
