Review RateGreat product!
Purchased this charger spring of 2016. This charger is working great for me so far. Keeps my beef cows inside perimeter. I took it out of the packag, installed it and turned it on the same day. I was standing fifty feet away from the first calve that tested the wire and I could hear the "snap" once the calves nose touched the wire! Lesson learned! Just tested battery today after a very cold winter here in the north east and it still tested at 6 volts. Running approx 3 miles of wire on t posts with plastic insulators. I have mostly clay soil here so I installed 5 ground rods. This solar charger deserves 5 stars.
Review RateDon't Buy !!!!!
I have purchased 3 of these peaces of nothing. Wont last a year, and also Zareba won't sell you parts to fix their products. What a sorry excuse of a company. Would give them a 0 stars but it isn't available. Please save your money folks.Response From Zareba®Patty : Consumer Relations Representative

Review RateSo far it\'s greatI haven't had mine a great long time, but it keeps cows that we're getting out to stay in. Only took one encounter and that was it. Like it so much I bought a second one for our other property.
Review RateUnit may work on frogsHave had one of these chargers for a couple of years. For the money...better to buy a good BB gun. We raise goats, also have Golden Retrievers. this charger has no meaning to any of them...unless they lick it ! Running roughly 1/2 miles of fence, have 8 ground rods with two line's dedicated to just ground by the total length of fence...that would be 2 strands at primary level of contact plus ground wire above and below the 2 hot wires. Fence wire...14ga. steel...new this year as well. The actual ground itself is not dry...3 feet down your in very wet conditions...not gonna get any better then that ! From what we have dealt with...minimum 2 joules would possibly be enough, will know in a couple of weeks as are putting in just that.
Just saying...Response From Zareba®Lauren : Consumer Relations RepresentativeThank you for sharing this experience. When fully charged, this energizer will output approximately 7,500 volts under no load. The energizer must be fully charged before hooking it up to the fence line or minimal to no voltage may be seen on the line.
To charge the unit, keep it in direct sunlight for 3-4 full sunny days in the off position. Once charged, we recommend testing the energizer with a fence tester to ensure it is giving a sufficient output.
We apologize for this experience and would like to learn more about the fencing setup so we may offer assistance. Please contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-5-ZAREBA (1-855-592-7322) for troubleshooting.
Review RateIt actually works!Easily installed about a month ago and working perfectly. I ran a five strand fence around my backyard, flower gardens, vegetable garden and orchard and have been using a marine battery to electrify my fence. ( about 200 yes by 5 strands = 1000 yes ) . I charged the solar battery for 2 days then activated fence. It has been purring along since then. No more manhandling a heavy marine battery I hope. The solar battery seems to keep an adequate charge even through some relatively cloudy days. A young deer stuck his nose on the fence a couple of evenings ago and leaped up and back about 10 feet. I doubt he will try it again. Thank you!
Review RateWorks fineI now own three of these chargers and have been using two of them since April. So far they produce good, consistent power. I am attaching them to polywire with step in posts. They are each charging a half-mile. The horses and cows are very respectful. I do wish they came with connectors as other chargers do. I really had to improvise when I got the first two and found no connectors included.
Review RateGreat ChargerBoth my third fence charger about a month ago, best chargers on the market.
Review RateAmazon ReviewWell worth the price does a great job.
Review RateAmazon ReviewFirst one had a problem with the on/off switch - item was replaced in a timely manner and the replacement is working great!
Review RateAmazon ReviewI've never put up an e-fence before. Easy to do-don't be afraid-just do it! First time I've had a garden in five years that the deer haven't eaten as fast as it grows. Wish I'd bought it four years ago. No more stinky sprays, soaps, twanging-this-an-that. This does the job but I must caution to use as many wires high and low that it takes. The charger will do the rest!

All About Fence Chargers
Chargers are the heart of the fence system, providing the source for the electric current that flows through the fence wire.
The size of charger needed is dependent upon your fencing needs. These needs are determined by three main factors: the length of the fence (number of wires), the power source (AC, DC or Solar), and the type of animal being contained or excluded.
See our comparison charts of our fence chargers to help you determine which is best for your needs.
Types of Chargers
There are three main types of chargers: AC-Powered, Battery-Operated and Solar-Powered. The source of power for the charger to function determines the type of charger you will be using. Each type of charger has specific situations in which it is most desirable to use.
Selecting the right fence charger with adequate power for your enclosure is critical to keeping your animals safe.
Choosing the Right Fence Charger
The right fence charger is the heart of your electric fence system. Finding the best-matched charger for your fence is imperative to successfully contain/exclude animals. The experts at Zareba® Systems explain a simple process to ensure you buy the right fence charger to meet your needs.
Installation and Location
Every Zareba® Systems fence charger comes with a detailed installation manual. In addition, individual components include “how-to” instructions to assist in your fence system assembly.
Lightning and Power Surge Protection
Lightning is often the cause of fence charger failure. When lightning strikes the fence, the sudden power surge can travel down the fence wire and damage the fence charger.
A variety of properly installed products can prevent or limit lightning damage.
FAQs about Chargers
Q: What factors should I consider when purchasing a fence charger?
A: The power source (AC, Battery or Solar Powered), energy output (in joules), the type of animal being controlled, the length of the fence (more wires need more power) and the amount of vegetation growing near the fence should be considered when you are selecting your fence charger.
Q: What does Low Impedance mean? I see it on chargers in stores and on websites.
A: Low impedance chargers increase the joules (energy) on a fence line if weeds or other vegetation touch the fence. Low impedance chargers are ideal for long, multi-strand poly wire, tape, rope or high tensile fence systems. Low impedance chargers are recommended for most applications and can be operated by AC, DC or Solar Power.
The other type of charger, known as a solid state charger, is usually used to control short-haired livestock, small animals, and pets where only moderate weed conditions exist. These chargers deliver a medium-amperage shock and can be operated by AC or DC.
Q: Why does my fence charger make clicking noises?
A: Most fence chargers have a pulsed output. Every time it “clicks,” it is releasing energy to the fence that has been stepped up or increased through a capacitor and a transformer. This release of energy makes noise. Not all chargers make the clicking noise. The noise is designed for the owner of the charger and serves no functional purpose.
