Night use only!

Night use only! Display is not bright enough to see during day. Covering display blocking daylight doesn’t work. Useless high priced junk.
Recommend purchasing LCD display unit at lower cost to use during day.

This tester is designed to provide accurate readings, and viewing the display can be improved by positioning your body to create shade over the screen and checking readings from a direct angle. Many customers also find it helpful to take readings in areas with reduced glare.
This fence tester stinks

This fence tester is perfect if you like to check your fence at night, pitch black, no moon. If you try to use it anytime during the daylight hours it is COMPLETELY USELESS. Can’t believe it cost me almost $60.00. I wouldn’t give it to my worst enemy.

Excellent product for testing and diagnosing problems with electric fences. Readout is clear, even in the daylight and is a much better tool for diagnosing problems than the neon light tester. Helped me identify a problem with grounds and also area of fence that needed to have vegetation cleared. These steps made a huge difference in fence performance.
Works well in the dark

Works well in the dark; can't read the display in the daytime. It has held together in my tool drawer... Too bad I can't read the display during the daytime, because then I would not be shopping for another tester. I'm like anyone else with an electric fence, I need a tester that I can use at any time. The fence does not break down only at night.

Great little item. It reads an electric signal from about 18" away...which I found interesting because it demonstrated that horses are sensitive to that electric field without touching the fence and will stay away from it, unless of course it has a short somewhere. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is that the first unit I purchased would not work when a new battery was installed. Neither would the battery case close properly. HOWEVER, Zareba was fantastic! They replaced the unit without my presenting a receipt! They really stood behind what they sell. Very impressed!
Lights hard to see

The unit worked fine, but the lights are impossible to see and I am not willing to be repairing/testing my fence in the dark! I returned my unit because the battery cover piece was defective and would not go back on the unit. Three of us tried! This one needs a few tweaks to be worth $40-$50.

Why is the tester flashing 9.9KV and not reading it steady

Most energizers have a pulsating output, so the voltage reading will fluctuate.

how is 10,000 or more volts displayed on the tester?

If your fence voltage is 10,000 volts or more, it will be displayed as 10.0 KV or higher, depending on the exact voltage. The backlit display ensures that the readings are clearly visible both day and night.
