Charger Distance Ratings
The amount of fence line that your Zareba® charger can operate depends on several factors, including the type of fence line you’re choosing. Steel wire, for example, carries power further along the fence line than poly fencing. This fence is ideal for light weed or no weed conditions. Vegetation, weeds, and fallen tree branches may limit the distance electricity can be carried along a fence line. Ensure your fence is working to the best of its ability by regularly walking the fence line to check for disturbances.
The Zareba® 2 Mile Solar Powered Electric Fence Charger features a “Fence OK” indicator light so you know the status of your charger at any time. When your system is powered on, charging, and properly activated, this light will flash.
Solar-Powered Electric Fencing
Solar energy powers your electric fence charger. To prepare your charger for use, switch the on/off button to the “off” position and allow it to receive 3 days of sunlight. Your charger is then ready to use. Place it anywhere along your fence line – its durable case will protect it from harsh weather.
Solar Charger Installation Guide
To properly install your Zareba® electric fence charger, charge it first by exposing it to the sun for 72 hours. After that, mount it and attach connections as directed.
Your charger includes a number of features to make installation easy, including:
No outlets necessary – Place anywhere on your property.
Install on wood posts or flat walls.
Power indicator light to monitor charger status
Note: that every fence system needs a charger along with posts, insulators, and fence wire or poly fencing to be fully functional

Starts off well. Then after 1 year they are done. Not a good way to run a business. The motherboard burns out. Cost more to replace than buy new. Buy something else.
I am very happy with this charger. I wanted something solar as my garden is not easy access to electric. Arrived on time and was simple to set up and is keeping the deer, dogs, groundhogs and rabbits away. I could not be happier with my purchase.
I have this model and I have used it for a couple of years now for my garden. It works well to keep out small wildlife, but it is too under powered to keep out deer and livestock. I would recommend a different charger for that application. Overall, I am happy with it, easy to use, easy to maintain, reliable. The battery will last about two years, but easy to find when it needs to be replaced.
It's been working and then it just stopped working and I can't figure out why

Our home is deep in the woods and have not been able to keep squirrels out of our attic. Thinking about running a two wire perimeter around roof eaves and attaching a charger. My main concern is I don’t want to kill the squirrels. Thoughts?
Question by: Sonny on Apr 7, 2025, 11:21 AM
Thank you for reaching out about your squirrel situation. I completely understand your concern about keeping the squirrels out of your attic without causing harm.
However, I want to reassure you that using an electric fence doesn't necessarily mean harm to the animals. The fence uses a pulsating charge, not a continuous one, which makes it safer and less likely to injure the squirrels. The charge is designed to provide a mild shock that causes discomfort but not harm, encouraging the squirrels to stay away.
For further safety and to reduce the voltage running through the fence, I recommend using polyrope as the wire material. Polyrope lowers the voltage, making it even safer while still being effective in deterring the squirrels. The typical voltage for an electric fence charger can be around 6000 volts, but using polyrope helps mitigate the intensity of the shock.
Additionally, I suggest contacting your local animal control for any specific guidelines or regulations in your area regarding wildlife management. They can provide further advice to ensure you're in compliance with local rules and best practices.
