Helpfulness
Direct strike and my charger was protected
Jul 28, 2017
I purchased the storm guard to replace the one on my charger blown out by a lightning strike. It was easy to install taking about two minutes from start to finish. My fence charger started working again and the charge meter registered 6.5. I was not so lucky with some electronics in my home. Surge protector did not protect and I lost two televisions and some other small electronics in the same strike. I would buy a storm guard for my home if it was available.
Doesn't help much

I agree with a previous post, this storm guard dropped my voltage by 2500. If I would have wanted a smaller unit, I would have bought one. I understand the manufacturer says this is normal, but it should not be normal. We want high voltage, which is why we purchased a bigger controller.

We appreciate the time taken to provide this feedback and apologize for the experience. The storm guard is included in the packaging of our larger fence chargers for added lightning protection. Its use is not required. Feel free to contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-5-ZAREBA (1-855-592-7322) with any additional questions.
Defective storm guard
Mar 15, 2017
This storm guard came with a 100 mile zareba. when installed it dropped the fence voltage by 0ver 2500 volts. If I had needed a weak charger I would have bought one. The storm guard also rattles when you shake it. Always check fence voltage with and without storm guard installed.

Thank you for sharing this feedback. When a storm guard is attached to an energizer it is normal for there to be a drop in voltage. To test that the storm guard is functioning properly, test the unit with an OHM meter. A reading of 1500 OHMs indicates that the storm guard is functioning properly. Please contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-5-ZAREBA (1-855-592-7322) with any additional questions.
Great product! Great protection!

I bought this Storm Guard to protect my Zareba AC 200 mile 15 joule fence charger. The Storm guard offers "extra assurance" when lightning storms are causing havoc and could possibly harm your pricey charger. For only $25 you cant go wrong!

The indicator light that confirms function quit within a year--we use the clicking sound. It is sensitive to anything that grounds the circuit unintentionally. Have not tested its reach beyond a 30 x 40' garden. Must unplug to deactivate unless additional items purchased. If you are in a lightening prone area, be sure to read your warranty and that of any lightening device.
Easy Fix

I have 3 Zareba Fencers with Storm Guard and they work great, we just had a lightning storm and it only cost me $30.00 to replace the Storm Guard instead of buying a new unit for over $200.00. As to Liz not able to hear the fencer, there is a very easy fix, we went to Menards and picked up 3 dusk to dawn sensors, 3 small LED lights that have 21 bulbs on each light "Rated for almost 5 years use and 3 glass globes. We installed the lights so we could visually see the electricity on for the fences, we no longer have to go out to the fencers after or during the storm to see if they are working. Well worth the time & money.
Q&A
Will this device reduce the output voltage from the charger to the fence
Question by: Jason F on May 10, 2024, 8:01 AM
There may be a slight reduction in voltage. We recommend testing the fence after installation to ensure it still meets your needs.
