Our home is deep in the woods and have not been able to keep squirrels out of our attic. Thinking about running a two wire perimeter around roof eaves and attaching a charger. My main concern is I don’t want to kill the squirrels. Thoughts?

Thank you for reaching out about your squirrel situation. I completely understand your concern about keeping the squirrels out of your attic without causing harm.
However, I want to reassure you that using an electric fence doesn't necessarily mean harm to the animals. The fence uses a pulsating charge, not a continuous one, which makes it safer and less likely to injure the squirrels. The charge is designed to provide a mild shock that causes discomfort but not harm, encouraging the squirrels to stay away.
For further safety and to reduce the voltage running through the fence, I recommend using polyrope as the wire material. Polyrope lowers the voltage, making it even safer while still being effective in deterring the squirrels. The typical voltage for an electric fence charger can be around 6000 volts, but using polyrope helps mitigate the intensity of the shock.
Additionally, I suggest contacting your local animal control for any specific guidelines or regulations in your area regarding wildlife management. They can provide further advice to ensure you're in compliance with local rules and best practices.
