i have purchased 2 of these in the past 8 years. They only last about 3-4 years from my experience, then fail. They work well when they are energizing, stopping the local squirrels from bothering my wife's bird feeders.
Purchased this small charger & polywire to protect my tomato garden from squirrels. Used 4 strands about 4" apart around the outside of a raised bed garden. A couple of breaking and enterings occurred in the first few days but nothing after that. To be fair, the tomatoes are past prime and not setting many fruits - will have to wait till next year for a true trial. Had no trouble setting this system up. Grounded with a single 6" rod, used the 12.5 gauge underground cable to hook up my fence and ground rod to the charger. Recommend getting a fence tester to verify the fence is pulsing.

Purchased to reinforce the top of a 4' dog yard in my parents yard to keep the cat from jumping the fence. So far the cat hasn't messed with it but the dog stuck her nose on it. It seemed to have hit her like a mack truck though... very strong. I'm most likely going to reduce the power by stitching to rope instead of wire since there's no other way to adjust the power.
I bought a model EA2M-Z .07 Joules 2 Miles Fence Controller to protect a Bird Feeder. The actual length of both the positive conductor and the ground conductor at the feeder is only about 10 foot each. The distance from the Controller to the Bird Feeder is only about 30 feet. I also bought the 12.5 Gauge Underground Wire to connect the Controller to the Bird Feeder. I find the 12.5 gauge wire and insulation to be very difficult to work with, and wonder if I need such a heavy inflexible wire for this application. Is there a smaller gauge wire that will work properly that is more flexible?

For your Zareba® EA2M-Z AC Powered Low Impedance Charger, because the feeder and ground conductor runs are so short, you don’t need 12.5 ga wire for performance, but the heavier wire recommended is part of designing low-impedance systems for all typical uses.
