I don't know how well it works. I ordered a 50 mile AC charger. It was in stock when I ordered it. 3 days later I received a 25 mile DC charger! I called Zareba. The 50 mile AC was now out of stock. The DC charger won't do me any good. I need an AC one. They had no idea when more would arrive. No apology. Nothing. I ordered another charger somewhere else. I called back the next and told them to refund my credit card.
The charger is doing an excellent job it has performed just as advertised and I will always come back to zareba for all my electric fence needs thank all of you for a fabulous product that is well designed and built.
I have used the Zareba 50-mile AC Powered Low Impedance Charger for several years and am quite happy with it. I bought another as a spare to keep on hand in the event the electrodes wear out or it gets hit by lightning. However, their rod insulators are terrible. I need insulators for the 5/8" (#5) rebar I use as posts. Zereba post insulators (for wire and tape) are near impossible to thread correctly, and they are not open on the end to slip around the post - instead you need slide it over the top of the post. Try doing that when you have 7 wires above the one one you need to replace. The designers of these terrible insulators probably never put up a fence in their lives. The insulators by parmakusa are far superior - easy to install and tough.
What kind of extension cord can I use with the 50 mile?
Question by: Kathryn on Jun 24, 2025, 10:00 PM
Hi, thank you for reaching us. Extension cords can be used with our AC chargers, but they have to be no longer than 50 feet and must be rated for industrial and outdoor use.

Can this unit be installed outside?
Question by: David A Pavlovsky on Jul 15, 2022, 6:39 PM
This energizer can be used outside, however, it would need to be protected from the elements or installed in a weatherproof box.

I recently purchased this charger to contain goats on our property with poly wire. It has done well for this purpose so far. We have 2 huskies who have been known to roam and are wondering, will it harm the dogs if they come in contact with it?
Question by: Trevor on Aug 24, 2025, 2:21 PM
Thank you very much for contacting us. It would be our pleasure to assist you. For dogs, the recommended fence line voltage is between 700–1000 volts. This charger delivers a minimum of 8000 volts, which is much higher than what is required. While the shock is not lethal, it will be very intense and could be harmful or highly uncomfortable for your huskies. We recommend using a lower-output energizer that better matches the voltage range suited for dogs.

I want to use this while traveling / camping with our horses. Can this run from a power inverter? What amp or watt draw does it have?
Question by: Dale on Jul 15, 2025, 12:34 PM
Thank you very much for contacting us.
We do not recommend using AC-powered fence chargers with generators or power inverters, as these power sources can produce inconsistent current, which may damage the charger or reduce its performance over time.
All of our AC chargers draw less than 1 amp, so they are energy efficient, but they are designed specifically for stable, grounded AC outlets.

I’m looking at your 50 mile charger with 2 joules. I have sheep, and goats. But I need to protect them from the coyotes and stable dogs. Based upon my reading, I need 7k volts. How many volts will this produce?
Question by: Robert Legg on Jul 8, 2025, 8:13 PM
The Zareba® 50 Mile Charger produces up to 11,400 volts under no-load conditions.
