Zareba® 10 Mile Solar Powered Electric Fence Charger
Harvest the sun's energy for your fencing needs with the Zareba® 10 Mile Solar Electric Fence Charger. This energizer delivers the containment power you need without worrying about dead batteries or electrical outlet connections. Use this 0.15 joule output solar energizer to keep short-haired animals properly contained inside their fencing. This fence charger is for use in moderate vegetation conditions. Battery is included. Once this battery is fully charged by its solar panel, your energizer can operate up to 2 weeks with no sun.
Charger Distance Ratings
The amount of fence line that your Zareba® charger can operate depends on several factors, including the type of fence line you’re choosing. Steel wire, for example, carries power further along the fence line than poly fencing. While the 15 Mile Solar Charger can cut through some mild weeds, it is a good idea to keep the fence line clear as much as possible. Vegetation, weeds, and fallen tree branches may limit the distance electricity can be carried along a fence line. Ensure your fence is working to the best of its ability by regularly walking the fence line to check for disturbances

Connecting your fence is simple with the easy-grip knobs on your 10 mile solar Zareba® charger. Attach the fence’s ground wire to the post with the green knob and the live hot wire to the red knob. Remember to turn your charger off before making any connecting wire adjustments and then turn it back on so it continues to gather solar energy. Knobs are located under the charger to reduce their exposure to harsh weather.
Mounting Is Easy
Your solar charger can be mounted easily, even in remote locations. A built-in mounting bracket lets you set the charger on top of t-posts, y-posts and round-wood posts. You can also quickly mount your charger by hanging it from the holes in the charger handle. On my second one in less than three months. First one had good voltage for the first few days between 8-9kv, checking through out the fence. I noticed it wasn't putting anything out soon after. Checked the fence for problems found nothing, disconnected from fence checked and found no voltage, and returned. Installed a new one and it has very light voltage, won't register on the tester, but I can feel a slight plus if I hold my hand on it. I should have listened to the reviews I read about this product and bought a different brand. This fencer is trash.
Thank you for sharing this feedback. We're sorry to hear about this recent experience with this energizer. When first using it, the energizer should be charged in the OFF position for 3-4 full sunny days. To test the energizer, use an electric fence tester while the unit is under no load. We do not recommend testing an energizer by touch as your shoes will insulate you from feeling some or all of the shock. Reach out to us directly for additional fencing troubleshooting.

I use this charger to keep my goats inside about 450’ of electric netting. I have three 6’ grounding rods. My tester consistently reads at about 9000v and the goats stay in! Wonderful product. It’s been working for about a year and it just survived a terribly cold northern NH winter where it got to -25 degrees. There was a period this winter where the fence stopped working, but that was a grounding issue with all the snow - not the charger’s fault. So far so good! Looking to upsize for my new, larger pasture and will likely stick with Zareba.
All these chargers Zebra/American Farm Works are junk, they only last about a year and then you have to replace them! I have 4 or 5 in my Barn from the last 5 years. Get another brand!!!
We're sorry to hear about this experience and would like to help you get the most of your purchase! It is good to know that several of our chargers are covered under a 1+ year warranty. Please give us a call at 855-592-7322 for assistance. We're happy to help!

I use the poly webbing 1.5 inch wide. I have had to combine to make fence strong enough. I ahve also learned that the ground is very important. I bought the grounding kit which vastly improved the system. But Im not overly impressed after spending 1000 on the chargers -grounding and polywebbing. Also poly webbing does not like the wind. I have switched to poly rope. And after 2 years all the batteries need to be changed (amazon 20 bucks each)
We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. Our chargers are not recommended for use with polywebbing. Please feel free to contact us at 855-592-7322 with any questions, we're happy to help. -Kathryn

I have used Zareba solar fence chargers and electro net fencing to rotated sheep pastures daily. I have enjoyed good performance of the chargers and only replace the batteries after many years of flawless service. I use cord models when possible for their extended range.

So to prepare the unit for use: 1) Is it...….. "To prepare your charger for use, switch the on/off button to the “on” position and allow it to receive 48 hours of sunlight. From there, your charger is ready for use." (as stated in the info page of the model ESP10M-Z) or, 2) Is it ….."Turn the unit off for three days in the sun" (as stated by Zaraba Systems response's in the Reviews Section. Would like to measure the 6 volt battery but after removing the screw not sure with way the panel pulls out to access the battery and don't want to break it. After three days in off position I switched it to on, the red light is blinking (with no fence connections made yet) and using a brand new DEFT-AFW digital fence tester all I get are three red dots but no voltage reading. Took the meter to a different model fencer and meter read 4.5KV then in two seconds stopped working. This is a different issue. Not sure problem is the meter of the controller. The open circuit resistance between fence and ground wires measures 2 megaohms but has not been connected to the controller yet.
Hello Jay,Thank you for providing this feedback! We are sorry for this experience. For the best results, we recommend charging the unit in the off position for three days in the full sunlight. After charging, the energizer can be tested across the terminals (with the fence and ground wires removed) with a fence tester. The output should be 9,500 volts +/- 20%. If the tester is not working correctly, please feel free to contact us directly for warranty assistance. So far so good. Clear instruction and easy to install. Using in conjunction with about 2,000 ft. of the 1/2" heavy duty poly tape and 1,000 ft. of standard wire, provides plenty of shock to keep the horses off the fence.

Does the battery on the solar fencer (I have the 10 mile one) need to be replaced every so often? And if so, how easy it to do so? My fencer worked fine for a short time but doesn't any more. I liked it while it did work. Please advise.
Question by: Lorene on Aug 28, 2021, 8:00 PM
The battery in this energizer is good for approximately 2-3 years. There is a screw on the bottom of the energizer that can be removed to slide the panel away and gain access to the battery. Replacement batteries are found at the link below. https://www.zarebasystems.com/zareba-solar-battery-asb10-2
