Zareba® Poly Wire 656 Feet, 6 Conductors is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazon Review For electric deer fence and the occasional bear. Bear killed one peach tree deer another. Last year Deers seemed more agressive than every before and broke the garden barriers that had protected several garden areas and all different materials and fences so surprised after no problem or damage for 6-7 years we figure most the problem was a rogue deer or two. But it finally forced our hand to turn to electric fences. We bought two of the solar systems along with this polywire. The nice thing this wire has going for it is the color is a warning and alerts people to it's purpose we hope. We intend to get some other tags you hang on the wires too just to make it clear to anyone cutting through our acreage that the fences are no touch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazon Review Best material for electric fences. Extremely easy to work with, strong but with some stretch, and pretty good visibility. Will never use aluminum wire again. Cost is reasonable for the amount of fence you can put up with the rolls.

POLY WIRE / POLY ROPE

Features and Benefits

  • More visible than traditional wire
  • Lightweight
  • Convenient to install, repair and rewind
  • Will not rust

Ideal Uses

  • Temporary fencing
  • Rotational grazing
  • Controlled grazing

Poly wire is a good fence choice since it is more visible than traditional metal wire, lightweight and installs easily. Poly wire is easily tightened, spliced, repaired and rewound. In addition, it can be re-used again and again.

Use a poly wire tightener to maintain wire tension as needed.

This convenient wire can be used for temporary grazing, strip or rotational grazing and pet control. Poly wire should not be used with continuous output chargers

Poly rope is another excellent high visibility choice for your fence line. It is stronger than poly wire, with stainless steel strands woven through the rope.

The steel strands ensure maximum electrical energy is carried through the fence line at all times. Use a splicer to maintain a good connection. Most poly ropes are about 1/4 inch in diameter.

Note: For best results, use a low impedance fence charger to energize poly wire and poly rope fences. Poly rope should not be used with continuous output chargers.

Tips

Expert Tips

WIRE SPACING

The height and spacing of the wires will vary with the animal you are containing. Position one electrified wire at animal’s shoulder height; this will cause it to hit the fence with its nose, making it back up.

POLY TAPE

Use poly tape for horse fencing or in rotational grazing since the animals can easily see this highly visible electric fence wire. Splice poly tape with splicer buckles specially designed for easy splicing and repairing of poly tape.

POLY WIRE

Poly wire is lightweight, so it is very easy to handle. You can rewind it very easily, move it and re-use it. Splice poly wire by tying a good, tight knot to maintain connections. Use a poly wire line tightener on each line and each side of the fence to maintain wire tension.

POLY ROPE

Also highly visible, this electric poly rope is also used for horses and livestock. When repairing poly rope, use a splicer designed for poly rope to maintain a good electrical connection.

FENCE CHARGERS FOR WIRE

Use a low impedance fence charger with poly wire and poly tape products.

PERMANENT PERIMETER FENCING

For a permanent perimeter fence, you may want to use high tensile or steel wire as your fence wire.

FAQs

Fence Wire FAQs

Q: Why is poly tape better for use with horses than regular wire?

A: It's a matter of visibility. Horses can see the tape more readily than wire. Remember, electric fencing is a psychological barrier: after a horse has met up with a poly tape electric fence and has felt the shock, when it sees the poly tape again, it will remember the shock and stay away from the fence.

Q: Why should I place one wire at the animal's shoulder?

A: Positioning one electrified wire at animal’s shoulder height will cause the animal to hit the fence with its nose, making the animal back up. See illustration below.

Q: What is the advantage of using high-tensile wire rather than aluminum wire?

A: High tensile wire is designed to be both a psychological barrier and a physical barrier. High tensile wire not only carries a shock, it is also sturdy enough to prevent a large bull from penetrating the fence line (as long as it has been installed correctly.)

In addition, aluminum wire can stretch out over time as tension is applied to it (very slowly). High tensile wire will not stretch; this affordable barrier can last for many, many years.
