A few things you should know when repairing a charger:

Most chargers can hold a charge long after they have been unplugged or disconnected from the battery. You can be shocked by an unplugged charger. The consumer assumes all risk when repairing or utilizing a charger that has been “repaired” or modified. In addition, once the charger has been opened all warranties are null and void and state of federal inspections and approvals (such as UL, CE) are terminated.

New Parts Can Still Be Bad

Ego got me into this. Stinking deer were not going to get my tomatoes. Out of the box the charger pooped out. It ran for 10 minutes. I can fix anything so I ordered the card. All the parts were new so the first thing could just be timing or A-fet. This had to get fixed or the deer would win. Warrantee be dammed. A week later I plugged in the new card and it fried the A-fet and protection diode. I called the factory and repair station. Both said I was out of luck and would have to pay fifty bucks and wait a month. No way, the deer were at my door. I ordered 10 A-fets with another week guarding the garden. More analysis, had to be the output transformer because better fets would hold with a heat sink and the charging cap was charging and not leaking . I have pulse tools but the high voltage is a mystery without waveforms. Another week and the transformer didn't fix it. Reluctantly I ordered the 4 mic charging cap. That fixed it. I beat the deer and now have parts enough for a second charger. Once again I can fix anything.
